Dispelling MYTHS About Staying Hydrated

Its mind-boggling to listen to sales commercials that say anything they want to sell their product… and people believe messages to be the truth when it’s really just a sales pitch and may not be true. We definitely see this with how to stay hydrated.

If there’s a product behind it, watch out, there may not be any truth to their pitch!

First, reports show….

-45% of the average American's intake of sugar comes from drinks

-65% of those sugary drinks are sodas / soft drinks

-60% of those consuming soft drinks daily are our low-income families

-45% in comparison are higher-income families consuming soft drinks daily

This is a costly habit. But more importantly, excess sugar intake negatively affects health by increasing risks of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, inflammation, and dental problems.

Outside soft drinks, energy drinks, coffee shop drinks, sweet teas, and more are also clear culprits to the over-consumption of sugar! That’s just about the sugar/high fructose corn syrup content too….  what are the rest of those ingredients in drinks?

-addictive stimulants

-artificial colors, flavorings, fillers, toxic chemicals that your body struggles to discard

-and the combination makes drinks very acidic which makes you actually MORE thirsty!

So let’s address the truth about staying hydrated.

Your body REQUIRES:

-FOOD to nourish your brain, cells and organs

-WATER to cleanse your brain, cells and organs

And “If it’s not water, it’s not water.”

Why MORE water and NOT other drinks?

1) Gatorade, sodas, sport drinks are FULL OF CHEMICAL POLLUTANTS (artificial colors, artificial flavorings, enhancers, stabilizers). ANYTIME you fill your body with unhealthy ingredients that are FOREIGN to the body and has no need, your body has to work HARDER to remove them. And if it can't, dysfunction/disorder sets in.

2) These chemical-filled drinks are highly acidic, and they are dehydrating. So the more you drink, the more thirsty you become, and the more stops to the convenience store you make… it's more money, more dehydration. Ever wondered how someone can drink a 64-oz soft drink and not be peeing the rest of the afternoon? It’s actually majorly dehydrating…. most don’t realize this.

3) Pure water hydrates and cleanses your cells of toxic substances…. a vital source for cleansing impurities from our cells. BUT many say water is bland, and has no taste. Well, it’s not supposed to be tasty - we need it for cleansing. HOWEVER, if you do like great flavors, that’s where adding a few drops of essential oil can be the game changer.

My neighbor started adding a few drops of wild orange to her water and later exclaimed…. “I’m drinking more water!  I love the taste of my water with the wild orange!” And wild orange, lemon, grapefruit or other citrus essential oils are surprisingly VERY ALKALINE. So they actually raise your pH levels ALONG with improving cleansing, digestion, metabolism, PLUS boost immunity and raise your energy levels. Pretty cool, huh!

4) Additionally, for staying hydrated, one of our best electrolytes is SALT! Oooo it seems to be an item that people are told to cross off their lists, BUT here’s the truth about salt that you should know….

Regular table salt is stripped of all other minerals, then bleached…. the end result is chlorinated sodium. And you can taste the chlorine. This type of salt creates an “imbalance” of minerals and is why you and I should stay completely away from it.

Unrefined, natural salts (Himalayan, Celtic, Real Salt) have all the minerals left intact, are not bleached, and can actually create a “balancing” of minerals in your body. In fact, health experts often recommend adding a pinch of natural salt to your water to increase your electrolytes ESPECIALLY if you don’t eat processed foods (which are full of table salt - refined, bleached, only sodium and no other minerals).

Yes, these are inorganic minerals, BUT they are vital for hydrating your cells. Organic minerals from your vegetables are also good sources of salt.

Just add a pinch of salt to your water bottle, and then (if it's glass or stainless steel only) add a few drops of citrus essential oil. This is perfect for staying hydrated and really quenching your thirst while contributing many more positive digestive, cleansing, and immune benefits. AND they add great flavors.

Just a little bit about essential oils…

-ONLY use those meant for ingestion (note a supplement fact label)

-Lemon, orange, and other citrus oils boost immunity, and are cleansing, alkalizing, and help increase metabolism so you have more energy. And they have great flavor... you can add them to many foods and drinks!

-Peppermint or Spearmint are coolants and support a healthy digestion, but they have a strong flavor so 1 drop is ample in a water bottle.

Be smart! Hydrate with water, unrefined salt, and essential oils to improve your energy and best hydrate your cells.

Happy Health!
