Toss Those Dangerous Insect Repellents

Insect repellents are another dangerous source of chemicals that we need to avoid especially on our skin. More and more research makes this clear…. take a look….

Dangers of DEET and Chemical Insect Repellents Ingredients

- The chemical DEET can melt plastic or fishing line.

- A pharmacologist at Duke University discovered that prolonged exposure to DEET may impair cell function in parts of your brain.

- Scientists from Ange University “…found that DEET is not simply a behavior-modifying chemical and inhibits the activity of a key central nervous system.”

- Permethrin is another harmful chemical found in many bug sprays. This chemical is a neurotoxin, meaning it can kill brain cells. Permethrin is also extremely toxic to bees, cats, and all aquatic life. Not only is it hurting the body, it is also damaging the environment.

- The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has categorized Permethrin as carcinogenic, capable of causing lung tumors, liver tumors, immune system problems, and chromosomal abnormalities.

SOOOO, if these sprays can kill mosquitoes and melt plastic, it is probably not a good idea to use on your skin. When we use these repellents, the toxic chemicals that are inside them get directly absorbed into our blood through the skin and may be doing more damage to the body than we ever imagined.

INSTEAD use Terrashield (an essential oil blend).

And I’ve also got good results from creating a spritzer version so it’s easy to apply and lasts longer. I call it “Bug-Be-Gone” - see below! But first, look at two stories…

Jerah, who is from Georgia, sent me this, “I have to tell you my story. There are so many bugs and insects out here in Georgia its crazy!!! I let the kids go out in the backyard, and they were only out there for maybe fifteen minutes before they came inside covered in bug bites!! The next evening we were going out to watch fireworks, July 3, so I decided to use my oils...the kids had not one bug bite!! And the following day, July 4th, we went to a church member’s house who lives on a huge lake. You could smell the bug spray people had caked on, but I brought my essential oil blend for insects and used that instead. While everyone else was fending off the massive mosquitos, we were enjoying the fireworks and friends. Now I carry it with me where ever I go. In a 2 oz. glass spritzer bottle, I add about 10 drops of Terrashield essential oil blend and fill it with water. Whenever we go out I ‘mist’ the kids! I love it and I love seeing the oils work so well.”

Also I had another friend tell me a while back that she went to an outdoor pageant at night with several family members. While they were all spraying on those stinky, sticky Insect Repellents, she simply applied her Terrashield straight. They teased and poo-pooed her UNTIL everyone was getting bit but her. They all began asking her for hers and it worked so much better for everyone that tried it. They were ALL amazed!

BUG-BE-GONE - Super Simple!!

2 oz glass spritzer bottle

10 drops of Terrashield essential oil blend

fill with water

Shake before using and spritz on exposed skin areas.

I have this ready to go by my back door so when I’m going out later in the evening when the bugs are out it’s handy to grab. If bugs are more intense, I use it straight…. a few drops in my palm and apply to all exposed areas. Either way, it’s the best I’ve ever used. AND it smells good and NOT sticky! Yay!! :)
